Interview with Ruth Silver
Is there a particular scene
in Moirai that you had a hard time writing? What scene is it and why?
The
beginning of a story is always the hardest for me. Once things get moving, I
find it a lot easier. Often I end up rewriting the beginning, adding more to
strengthen it.
I know for a fact that most
authors have their favorite place/spot when they write. I would like to know if
you have one too? And what place/spot is it?
I
love writing on our sofa recliner, with my feet up. It’s relaxing.
Did it ever occurred to you
before that you will become an author or does this came as a surprise to you?
When
I was younger, I never considered writing to be a career. I went to college for
Communication, I searched out a typical office job. I did those types of
careers for awhile but was never fully satisfied with it. I ran my own
photography business for awhile, while I was writing Aberrant. Eventually, I decided to query my manuscript.
What's the harshest thing you've ever read in a review about
your book before? And how did you cope up with it?
There’s always going to be bad
reviews. If you had 1000 positive reviews and not a single bad one, it wouldn’t
look legitimate. I recognize not everyone will love what I write. I’ve accepted
that early on (though I admit I don’t have particularly thick skin). I try my
best not to dwell on reviews - good or bad. I do remember early on someone
commenting how my main character was paranoid. Of course she’s paranoid, she’s
being chased by the government! Wouldn’t you be paranoid too? How did I cope
with it? I laughed. Not a mean or harsh laugh, just an ‘okay this person didn’t
get it.’ Then, I moved on.
Is there a time in which you regret being an author and
is on the brink of giving it up?
I’ve
never regretted it but there are days I’ve considered a job that pays a regular
salary. As a writer, we live off royalties. We don’t make much and it’s tough
to make ends meet.
IF ever you will be stuck
in an island forever and have a chance to bring ONLY ONE book with you, what
book will it be?
Can
it be a blank notebook? :) If not then I’d probably bring Forever by Pete Hamill.
IF ever you get a chance to
meet ONE particular author (deceased or alive), who will it be?
John
Green, I’d love to meet him.
IF you can live for one day
in a fictional place (i.e Narnia, Hogwarts, Middle Earth), what place will it
be?
I loved The Mortal Instruments. I’d love
to be a Shadowhunter and able to see everything that they do. Though some of it
might be frightening!
I know that we all have
that one book which we cried our heart out and sob so much that we almost drown
in our own tears so I would like to know what book made you cry so much? The Fault in Our Stars
Do you have words of advice
for those people who are aspiring to be an author?
Write, write, write. Then
feel confident enough to share your words with others. Ask for feedback.
Consider what they say and grow from the constructive criticism.
Thank you Ms. Ruth for sparing me some of your free time to answer all of my questions to you. Til' next time! :)

About the Author
Ruth Silver attended Northern Illinois University and
graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication in the spring of 2005. While in college, she spent much of her free
time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, Deuces
are Wild, which she self-published in 2004.
Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often
handed in assignments longer than the professor required because she loved to
write and always wanted to finish her stories. Her love of writing led her on
an adventure in 2007 to Melbourne, Australia.
Silver enjoys reading, photography, traveling and most of all
writing. She loves dystopian and fantasy
young adult stories. Her debut novel
published by Lazy Day Publishing, ABERRANT is scheduled for release April
2013. Ruth has been actively writing
